Shoes....Shoes...and more Shoes

ShopSmart, a magazine done by the publishers of Consumer Reports, conducted a poll of more than 1,000 women to gauge their shoe habits.

Among the findings, the average woman owns 19 pairs of shoe. However, she only wears four pairs on a regular basis.

"This survey proves without a doubt that women are serious shoe collectors," said Lisa Lee Freeman, editor in chief at ShopSmart. "Women obviously love their shoes, and are willing to go to great lengths for them."

For example, 43 percent have been injured, at least moderately, by wearing certain shoes. About 8 percent have suffered more severe injuries, such as sprains and breaks. No pain; no fashion gain.

Also 13 percent have hidden shoe purchases from their significant other.

Other tidbits uncovered in the poll include:

- 97 percent revealed that shoe shopping has never created financial problems for them.

- 60 percent have regretted at least one shoe purchase.

- 33 percent don't have enough room to store their shoes.

According to the poll, online shoe shopping is not a popular option, with 74 percent saying they prefer to try on shoes before purchasing them.
