This morning at approximately 0220 hours, deputies from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a report of a possible victim of a shooting who was down, in front of the residence at 2415 Monterey St., in Bakersfield.
Deputies arrived and found an adult male, in his mid thirties, lying on the street, next to a pick-up truck. He was unconscious and had some type of trauma to his head. Medical aid responded and the subject was pronounced deceased. Homicide detectives arrived and began an investigation. It has been determined that the victim had arrived at a friend’s residence in the 2400 block Monterey St.
The occupants of the residence heard what they believed to be a loud “pop”. They looked outside as they thought the sound might be fireworks. When they looked outside, they saw the victim’s truck. They went out to check on him and found him injured and unconscious. They went in and called for help. Neighbors in the area also reported hearing a pop, or a possible gun shot. As detectives, and a sheriff’s coroner investigator, examined the body of the victim at the scene, they were unable to determine if the subject had, in fact been shot.
An autopsy is scheduled for later today to determine the exact cause of death. No suspects have been located at this time. The investigation is continuing and at this time, is not believed to be gang related. If anyone has any information regarding this case, they are urged to call the sheriff’s office at 861-3110, or secret witness at 322-4040.
