annual coaches meetings. The NBA D-League Draft will be held Thursday, November 3.
“It didn’t go the way we wanted, but we look forward to using these picks to help us build on last year’s

partnership with McDonald’s, the first major corporation to join the Roadrunners under their new relationship with Nelligan.
The deal with the independently-owned and operated group of McDonald’s restaurants, is one of the largest corporate sponsorships to date
for Roadrunner Athletics and will include some very visible pieces, most notably, McDonald’s famous ‘Golden Arches’ logo on CSUB’s one-ofa-

“It’s a natural fit, to bring McDonald’s and the golden arches together with the Roadrunners and our commitment to being ‘The New Gold

the importance of being active.
“McDonald’s is a first-class organization and it means a lot for them to partner with CSUB Athletics in such a meaningful way,” said Konya.
“We look forward to all aspects of this relationship playing out for the Roadrunners, our fans and the good people and employees of the

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.–Kassi Massey (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) scored a pair of goals to lead CSU Bakersfield past Southern Utah 3-0 in women’s soccer action Friday night.
Massey got the Roadrunners on the board in the 34th minute when she converted a crossing pass from Daisy Vasquez (R-Jr., Redwood City, Calif., Woodside HS). Her second goal was a blast from 25 yards in the 55th minute that went into the top right of the goal. Jessica Fogeltanz (Sr., Camarillo, Calif., Ventura College) scored off a direct kick with 12 seconds to go in the match for the final tally of the night.
“Its biggest part of the game today was having Kassi Massey our senior captain who puts in an undying effort every single day, (score) two goals,” said CSUB Head Coach Melissa Phillips. “That’s what she needed to give our team a boost. Very pleased on how we played tonight. Little scrappy here and there, it was a great result for us tonight.”
The Roadrunners head to Loyola Marymount for a 1 p.m. match Sunday afternoon.

BAKERSFIELD, September 1, 2011 – Will Voigt will return for his third season as the Bakersfield Jam Head Coach in 2011-12, the team announced today. In his second season with the Bakersfield Jam, Coach Voigt led the Jam to recognition as the NBA Development League’s biggest turnaround of the 2010-11 campaign.
“Will is an asset to our basketball team and our community. He has built an incredible infrastructure for our organization and important relationships with our Jam partners. We are excited about the upcoming season and we believe that Will has positioned our team for continued success on and off the court,” said Bakersfield Jam Managing Partner, David Higdon.
After ending the 2009-10 season at 17-33, the Jam compiled a 29-21 regular season record last year. The best season to date in the franchise’s five-year history, the team also made their second franchise playoff appearance and earned their first franchise playoff win.
“Stan Ellis and David Higdon are wonderful people to work for,” said Coach Voigt. “They have worked hard to provide our players the best facilities in the D-League, and I am grateful to return as their head coach. I look forward to continuing our success from last season.”
Prior to joining the Jam, Coach Voigt spent three years as the Head Coach of the Vermont Frost Heaves, where he led the team to back-to-back ABA Championships in the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons. He was named ABA Coach of the Year and selected to coach in the All-Star Game both years.
In 2007, the Frost Heaves were named by Pro Basketball News Best Team in minor league basketball (including D-League, CBA, IBL, and USBL). After the 2007-08 season, the team transferred to the PBL where Coach Voigt once again led them to the playoffs. At the end of the season, Pro Basketball News named Will Voigt one of the top ten basketball coaches not in the NBA.
Prior to joining Frost Heaves, Coach Voigt spent three seasons as Head Coach of the Ulriken Eagles in Norway’s highest professional league, and served as an assistant coach for the Norwegian National Team for the last two years.
He has also worked as an assistant coach for both the University of Texas and Metropolitan State College in Denver. Before his coaching days, he was the head video coordinator for the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs.

Courtesy: Ricky Bassman Gyasi Zardes was named MPSF Men's Soccer Player of the Week Aug. 29.
If you aren’t yet familiar with CSUB men’s soccer player Gyasi Zardes, you will be before the end of the 2011 season. Not only was Zardes named to the MAC Herman Trophy Watch List (basically the Heisman of College Soccer), but he was also our conference player of the week last week (Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) after he netted three goals in our 5-1 win over UC Riverside.
Today, Zardes was also named to Soccer America’s ‘Team of the Week.’ The accolades two weeks into the season are already piling up, he’s a tremendous young player, a redshirt sophomore and last season’s MPSF Freshman of the Year.
Below is the link to Soccer America’s page, he also was mentioned in the soccer blog at ESPNLA.com over the weekend. If you would like to talk to Gyasi please let me know. He’s out of town with the team today but I wanted to keep you posted on his accomplishments as they roll in. He’s one of those special players that people should know about.
The men’s was also ranked #9 in the Far West Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and received 1 vote in the national poll released by NSCAA yesterday as well. They take on San Francisco tomorrow evening.
