Upon arrival, officers located Robert Vandergriff (26), of Bakersfield, suffering
from a single gunshot to the back. He told officers that he had been shot just as
he was about to enter through the front door of his apartment. He said he heard
several shots fired and was wounded. Vandergriff was transported to Kern
Medical Center and at this time is in stable condition.

Witnesses described two suspects as:
1) Black male, teens, 5’6, thin build, wearing a black hooded
sweatshirt,
2) Black male, teens, 5’6, thin build, wearing a black hooded
sweatshirt.
The suspects were last seen fleeing west in the 1800 block of Hendricks Lane on
foot.

The investigation is continuing. It is unknown at this time whether or not the
incident is gang related.

Robbery at Max Muscle on McNair is Southwest Bakersfield

On October 30, 2011, at approximately 12:25 a.m. Bakersfield Police responded to a report of a robbery that just occurred at Max Muscle, 8000 McNair Lane. Upon arrival, officers contacted the owner of the business who said that two armed suspects had attempted to rob him. He reported that as the suspects fled the business he fired several shots at them.

Investigation revealed that two suspects described as:
1) Black male, 20’s, 5’10, wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, armed with a dark colored handgun.
2) Black male, 20’s, 5’7, wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, armed with a dark colored handgun, entered the rear open door of the business. Once inside they confronted the male owner of the business and a female companion. Both suspects brandished firearms. The male victim was ordered to the ground at gunpoint. After making demands for money, one of the suspects walked to the rear of the business. The male victim then retrieved a firearm and attempted to fire at the suspects. The suspects then fled the business and are pursued by the male victim. As the suspects fled the male victim fired three shots at the armed suspects. They were not injured and are still at large.

The suspects took currency from the business. There were no reported injuries as a result of the incident. The investigation is continuing.

The Bakersfield Police Department is asking for the community’s assistance in identifying a suspect wanted for
indecent exposure and annoying children.
On 9/30/11, at about 4:30 p.m., the suspect depicted in the attached video pulled alongside the victim’s vehicle at
Olive Drive and Old Farm Road and made it a point to get her attention. When the victim looked over, she saw the
suspect was exposed and masturbating. The victim used her cell phone to capture video of the suspect and his
truck.
During a separate incident, same date at about 5:00 p.m., two girls, ages 11 and 12, were walking in the 11000 block
of Agoura Hills Way when a similar suspect pulled alongside them and asked for directions. This suspect was also
exposed and masturbating. When the girls declined to get in the truck and show him where the street was he was
looking for; the suspect drove away and was last seen east on Olive Drive.
The suspect appears to be a Caucasian or light complexioned Hispanic male in his early thirties, having dark hair with
a receding hair line, a deep voice and wearing sunglasses.
The vehicle is a white 2004 Ford Explorer Sport Track four door truck. California License plate 7N70636.

BPD News Release/Attempted Murder Arrest

On 9/13/11, at about 10:00 a.m., Bakersfield Police Homicide detectives arrested
Gregory William Starling 46 for last night’s attempted murder of Marcus Von Williams 38
in the parking lot of the Royal Palms Motel, 200 Union Avenue. Starling will be booked
into the Kern County Jail on a Ramey warrant charging attempted murder, and a parole
violation hold.

On 09/12/2011 at 11:27 PM officers of the Bakersfield Police Department were
dispatched to the parking lot of the Royal Palms motel, 200 Union Avenue, to a report of
a victim of a shooting. Upon arrival officers located an adult male down in the parking lot
with a single gunshot wound to his neck. The victim was transported by ambulance to a
local hospital where he is being treated for life threatening injuries.
Detectives responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The name of the
victim is being withheld pending notification of the family.

The Bakersfield Police Department is asking for the community’s assistance in identifying a
suspect wanted for robbery.
On 8/31/11, at about 8:20 p.m., the victim was walking south on Emerson Street from Surrey
Lane when two suspects occupying a 4-door, black Pontiac GT, with a spoiler stopped
alongside him. The passenger suspect got out of the vehicle, pointed a gun at the victim and
demanded his money .The suspect reentered the vehicle and it was last seen traveling north on
New Stine Road from Surrey Lane.
The suspect was described as a Black male, approximately 5’08”, thin build and having short
black hair. Attached is a computer generated composite of the suspect.

The Bakersfield Police Department is asking for the community’s assistance in
identifying two suspects wanted for credit card fraud.
On 08/25/11, at 10:45 a.m., the suspects depicted in the attached video surveillance
photos entered CVS Pharmacy at 9628 Rosedale Hwy and each used fraudulent credit
cards to purchase gift cards. Both suspects arrived in a newer model dark Chevrolet
four door sedan. They appear to be a
Medium complexioned male, 30-40, 5’7”, 200 lbs with tattoos on both forearms and a
Medium complexioned male 6’0”, 230 lbs, having black hair and a medium build.

On Sunday, September 11, 2011 and the Bakersfield Police
Department will conduct a DUI / Driver License Checkpoint at
undisclosed locations in the City of Bakersfield.
This DUI / Driver License Checkpoint is in an effort to reduce
the number of persons injured or killed each year in DUI
related collisions. A major component of this enforcement
event is to increase awareness of the dangers of impaired
driving and to encourage sober designated drivers.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the
California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The public is
encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they
see a suspected impaired driver.

BPD News Release/Wanted for CC Fraud/803150

The Bakersfield Police Department is asking for the communities’ assistance in
identifying a suspect wanted for Burglary and Unauthorized Use of an Access Card.
On July 10, 2011, the suspect depicted in the attached video surveillance photos made
a purchase using a stolen credit card. The suspect has also used the card elsewhere to
purchase gas and consumer items. She appears to be a Caucasian female in her midthirties,
5’6” tall having a medium build and brown hair worn in a ponytail.

BPD News Release/Wanted for Theft/803457

For Immediate Release August 22, 2011
The Bakersfield Police Department is asking for the community’s assistance in
identifying a suspect wanted for theft.
On 8/23/11, and 8/25/11, the suspect depicted in the attached video surveillance photos
entered the Target Store, 11000 Stockdale Highway, and used a cutting tool to remove
to remove electronic items from the packaging and then conceal the items in his
clothing before leaving the store without paying for them.
The suspect appears to be a Caucasian male in his 30’s, clean shaven, having a
medium to heavy build and brown hair.
Anyone with information regarding the identity of this suspect is encouraged to call
