BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Mandi Carver was named the CSU Bakersfield women’s basketball assistant coach on Wednesday morning by Head Coach Tim La Kose. Carver will assist in all aspects of the program with an emphasis in working with the Roadrunner post players.

“Mandi comes to us with glowing recommendations from some of the top minds in women’s college basketball,” said La Kose. “Her experiences as a top student–athlete and as a professional player in both the WNBA and overseas will be very beneficial for our players and our program. I am very excited to have her working for us as we continue our goal to become a top Division I program.”

A standout post player at Idaho State, Carver was a three–time first team All–Big Sky performer as well as a three–time all–academic selection. She was named conference MVP in the regular season and in the postseason tournament as a junior, leading the Bengals to a conference title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. During her senior season, she topped all Division I rebounders with a 12.4 average. She finished her career as Idaho State’s all–time leader in scoring (1,538), rebounds (1,098), blocked shots (180), field goals made (583), free throws made (354) and double–doubles (52).

After graduating from Idaho State, Carver signed a free agent contract with the WNBA’s Detroit Shock. In April of 2009, Carver ended a seven–year professional overseas career to return to the states. During her time abroad, she played for nine professional teams in eight different countries.

Carver has been invited to work at some of the nation’s elite basketball camps including the Pete Newell Tall Women’s Basketball Camp, where she has been an instructor since 2003. She has also worked closely with Ann Meyers, the Phoenix Mercury’s general manager and one of the most distinguished figures in the history of women’s basketball.
